What is the difference between buffing, burnishing, and polishing?
They are related but not identical. Buffing is lower-speed rotary pad work — often "spray buffing" — that lifts light scuffs and restores shine to a waxed floor. Burnishing runs a high-speed machine to produce a deep, wet-look gloss on a finished floor. Polishing usually refers to mechanically refining concrete or stone with diamond pads and a densifier for a durable, low-maintenance sheen. We recommend the right method for your floor type after seeing it.
How often should our floors be buffed or burnished?
It depends on traffic. Busy grocery and retail floors in Los Angeles County are often burnished daily or several times a week to hold their gloss, offices and dealerships weekly, and lower-traffic areas monthly. We set a cadence during the walkthrough so the finish stays consistent between full refinishes.
Will buffing fix deep scratches, or do we need a full strip and wax?
Buffing and burnishing refresh gloss and remove light scuffs and haze in the existing finish. Once a floor has deep scratches, gray traffic lanes, or built-up worn wax, buffing alone will not bring it back — that is when a full strip and refinish is the right call. We will tell you honestly which one your floor needs.
Can you burnish after hours so it does not disrupt our store or office?
Yes. We schedule burnishing and polishing overnight, before opening, or on weekends so aisles and lobbies are dry and ready before staff and customers arrive. After-hours floor work is standard for the retail and office clients we serve across Los Angeles County.
Are your floor technicians insured and background-checked?
Ironcrest is licensed, insured, and bonded, and our floor-care technicians are background-checked. If your building requires proof of insurance or specific after-hours access procedures, we handle that before the first visit.
